5 DAY STLYE DIARY | TRENDS, EVENTS, AND NEWS

DAY 1:TREND

Hi everyone and Happy October!! This week I was challenged to complete a 5 day style diary detailing fashion trends, fashion news, and lifestyle events. First, I’d like to share with you a fashion trend I’ve been spotting on the street and the runways alike – sheer. Anything and everything sheer can be worn on its own with nothing underneath or can be layered to create a more modest look while still following the latest trend.

For my sheer look I chose a deep red, patterned midi dress. This look does not appear as sheer as those spotted on the runway since I opted for a more covered look, with fabric lining the sheer pattern. However, the sleeves and back are completely sheer and unlined. I also love the black embroidery details throughout the dress that add another dimension to the sheer pattern.

To complete my look I added patent black lace up boots and my black fiddler cap. Since the dress is a bold pattern that is long sleeve and lace up, I opted for no jewelry to keep the look simpler. Sheer fabric is a perfect trend for the fall days that are now upon us because it is easy to layer in with your chunky knit sweaters and blazers.

On the street recently I have seen sheer layered underneath of a short or midi dress, sometimes in a sheer lace.

DAY 2:TREND

This trend was inspired by street style rather than runway trends. Recently, I’ve been spotting fiddler or news boy hats on everyone in Soho. They pair well with any style depending on color and fabric, and as it finally becomes fall in the city we can finally break out hats. I paired my hat with black denim and a white grey grid shirt for an extra little detail to complete my outfit.

I tucked my black skinny jeans over top of fishnet socks to make them almost appear as tights rather than socks. This outfit is very casual and something I would typically wear while out shopping. The hat is great for covering up that next day hair, although I do wear it when my hair is freshly curled as well (see above).

The best part of this day was that my roommates and I found out our building has a rooftop that we can go up to. Even though this is literally a few feet from the street it is some crazy parallel world where it is quiet and there is no honking or screaming – paradise found.

Day 3:EVENT

Today we went to try a new brunch spot in the west village / soho area called, Cafe Clover. The food was great and the restaurant had very cute minimalist decor. They offered great brunch food including: quinoa pancakes, lavender waffles, avocado toast, and homestyle sweet potatoes, all of which was amazing. I opted for the lavender waffles which were also gluten free (only gluten free item on the menu excluding toast). The lavender flavor was very unique but good, and it came with a honey syrup, perfect for those who love the taste of honey. The fresh berries on top were the icing on the cake so to say. Overall, I would recommend this brunch spot although it is still second to Jack’s Wife Frida.

Day 4:NEWS

Just last week on Business of Fashion, I learned that Gucci and Polimoda were to launch a masters in retail management starting in April of 2018. This will be a nine month program with Gucci manager’s as guest lecturers. To read the full article click here. As a student studying fashion merchandising I enjoy reading about the new opportunities available to students like us to continue our studies on past undergraduate. This program along with new fashion law programs popping up allow for more diverse job paths for fashion students to take.

DAY 5:TREND

Today I wore a peasant dress with floral embroidery on a deep blue velvet fabric. Velvet is a top fabric trend for F/W17 and I have spotted it at almost every store I’ve gone to over the past week. If you don’t have any velvet yet for fall I recommend investing in a piece to try it out. This dress along with my NYFW dress are both velvet.

I added my whipstitched, leather, top-handle bag since the colors of the cord compliment the colors in the dress embroidery.

Anytime you opt for a high neckline or turtleneck I recommend putting your hair up or out of the way so you do not block the view of the garment. Overall, fall velvet is a great trend to join on in this fall with a wide range of styles and brands to choose from.
