Ciao! I just got back from my first weekend trip of the semester with my friends where we went to Interlaken, Switzerland. Switzerland was truly a dream come true, and unlike anything I’ve seen before.
We booked our trip with Florence for Fun which is a great tour company based in Florence. They basically get you to the destination and find the place for you to stay, but they didn’t do too much else so we were free to do whatever we wanted. We stayed at Funny Farm Hostel which was pretty decent, the beds were better than the ones in our apartment in Florence, but our bathroom had mold all over the ceiling. As far as hostels go I’m assuming this one is good, but I didn’t really know what to expect. It also had a cute little balcony (pictured above) that had one of the best views.
My friend Tatum and I went snowboarding / skiing both Friday and Saturday. We originally planned on doing it one day, but after the first day we knew we had to go back a second day. The views were amazing and to be able to snowboard / ski the swiss alps was unlike anything I’ve ever done. To get to the top of the mountain for snowboarding / skiing we had to take the train about an hour and a half from Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg, at 6,762 ft. From there easy and medium difficulty courses started down the mountain. At Kleine Scheidegg you can continue on to the highest point in Europe (that’s reachable by rail).
Friday night Florence for Fun had a 5 Euro chocolate tasting that we went to where we sampled champaign truffles, dark and white chocolate, chili dark chocolate, and pear shots inside chocolate. If you like chocolate I 100% recommend this but be careful because you’ll leave with way too much chocolate. On Sunday, we walked to Lake Brienz which was a short 30 min walk from Funny Farm. We stopped for Swiss Chocolate on the way at Swiss Chocolate Chalet Boutique (where we did the chocolate tasting) and got lunch on the way back before our 8hr bus ride back to Florence.
