This past Thursday we went to Dover Street Market (DSMNY) to see the market curated by Rei Kawakubo, designer of Comme Des Garcons. Upon arrival, a small line had formed to wait for the weekly release of a new Supreme collection that is sold at the market. The market consists of 7 floors of clothing from a range of designers including; Comme Des Garcons, Supreme, Gucci, Loewe, and The Row, to name a few. Each floor is designed differently and each designer designs their own section of the floor where their designs will be displayed.
According to Rei Kawakubo, “We hope to make DSMNY more and more interesting. I enjoy seeing all the customers coming to DSMNY dressed in their strong, good looking and individual way. I would like for DSMNY to be the place where fashion becomes fascinating.”
While the look, price, and merchandise was that of luxury, the overall feel to the store was street style. With concrete floors, exposed ceilings, and a mashup of store display colors, this store was anything but stuffy. This store has really created the all to important, “experience” when it comes to brick and mortar shopping. With store merchandise curated by the well known designer Rei Kawakubo and visual displays designed by the clothing designers sold in the store, this store draws in the lovers of high end street style clothing.
